- Elisheva Nassimi
Illustrated by Lauren Guetta, Talia Oshry, and Sierra Schneider
This year, the seniors created a banner celebrating the different cultures that came together to create Israel. We are celebrating the 75th year of our beloved homeland. The different waves of immigration which took place over the course of Israeli history are illustrated in the sails of the ship. Scattered around and blowing in the breeze are the immigration papers of some of our brothers and sisters. The volatile sea depicts the hard journeys our ancestors took to arrive at our homeland.
Our quote, "וְקָרֵב פְּזוּרֵֽינוּ מִבֵּין הַגּוֹיִם וּנְפוּצוֹתֵֽינוּ כַּנֵּס מִיַּרְכְּתֵי אָֽרֶץ," means that Hashem will bring the Jewish people back from lands all over the world and unite them in the land of Israel. In our senior class, a similar process has taken place. Many of us were born into different cultures, but as a grade, we’ve come together as one cohesive unit, just like our nation has in the past. After these four years, we feel liberated to tackle all the challenges and hardships that come our way, just like our ancestors did. This banner really does represent us, coming together as a grade, but more importantly, as Am Yisrael in general.
I would like to thank Lauren Guetta, Talia Oshry, and Sierra Schneider for helping create this beautiful banner. Also, thank you to the art department faculty for lending us supplies and being a helping hand throughout all of Shiriyah.
